Memoir & Personal Essay (spring 2025)

Join us for an 8-week Memoir and Personal Essay writing workshop at the Dairy Arts Center. Learn how to transform your personal experiences into narratives with universal themes. Using interactive discussions, writing exercises, and assigned readings, we will explore the nuances of truth and memory, techniques for developing a compelling first-person narrator, the balance between showing and telling, and strategies for uncovering the deeper significance within your own life experiences. All group discussions promote the goal of building a community of writers offering support, feedback, and encouragement in a safe space for sharing your work. Sessions will be customized to meet the specific needs and interests of the group.

Open to all adults anywhere in their writing journey. Class is limited to 12 participants

Brenda Kahn is a Boulder-based artist, celebrated for her poignant, lyric-driven music that blends personal narratives with broader social commentaries. She gained acclaim in the ’90s with her punk-folk music, leading to a deal with Columbia Records and praise for her album “Epiphany in Brooklyn.” She’s toured with musical greats Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley and authored “Ode to Chores,” a humorous take on motherhood in verse. Her 2024 single “Alright OK” is available on YouTube and Spotify. Kahn’s memoir, set to explore the transformative power of music and writing against the backdrop of the East Village music scene in the ’90s, is forthcoming.

Teen Creative Writing Workshop

Are you a teen who loves writing? Join our 6-week creative writing workshop for teens aged 14-17. We will explore various writing styles, make new friends, and enjoy free snacks! No strict rules, no grades, just fun, community, and self-expression.

This workshop is ideal for teenagers who:

want to express themselves without rules
love to try new things
want to connect with new friends with similar interests
are interested in exploring their own lives as writing material
work well in small groups
and love to make stuff up!

She discovered her love of teaching writing to teens as a high school English and writing teacher at Fusion Academy in White Plains, NY.

 This workshop is for moms of all stages looking to find their story and reconnect to their power in an open, safe community of creative women through the limitless potential of the written word. We will explore strategies for creating space to write, writing as self-care, and tapping into your muse. All writing levels (no experience necessary).
